What is covered

  • Tractors and machinery, on the road and in the field
  • Stored crops and fodder at market value
  • Diversifications: the farm shop, the glamping pods, the livery

What is not

  • Disease in livestock, unless you add it
  • Buildings in disrepair or out of use, unless agreed
  • Pollution that happens gradually

How we place it

A farm policy is several policies in one: a house, a set of working buildings, livestock, machinery, and often a business open to the public. We put the lot on one schedule and walk the yard with you before renewal, because a barn that has been converted since the last visit is a barn that is underinsured.

We insure farm buildings at rebuild cost where it matters, such as stone barns that would cost far more to rebuild than their value on the balance sheet. Where a building is only worth what it would cost to clear, we say so and save you the premium.

Diversification changes the liability. A farm shop or a field of glamping pods means members of the public on the land, and the policy needs to know about it.

A claim we handled

Storm took the roof off a stone barn

Forty square metres of tiles gone in February. We had the barn on the schedule at rebuild cost, not market value, so the reroof was paid in full.
