Van insurance

4.9 (612)

Comprehensive van cover for sole traders, with tools in transit, windscreen cover and a courtesy van inside two working days.

Who it suits. Sole traders and small firms running one working van, from car-derived vans to tippers.

Standard excess £500. The price shown is typical for a plain risk, not a quote.

What is covered

  • Tools carried in the van, on site and overnight in a locked van
  • Windscreens, with no loss of no-claims discount
  • A courtesy van inside two working days
  • Named drivers under 25, priced in rather than refused
  • Racking and signwriting, at replacement cost

What is not

  • Theft where the keys were left in the vehicle
  • Goods carried for hire and reward, unless you tell us
  • Drivers not disclosed to us before they drive

How we place it

For a tradesperson the van is the business: if it is off the road, so are you. That is why we look at the courtesy van clause before the price. A courtesy car is no use to a plumber with a boot full of copper.

Most van policies exclude tools, or cover them only in the daytime. We add a tools section with a stated limit and a clear overnight condition, so you know exactly what locked and parked means before anything goes missing.

If you run more than one vehicle, look at fleet cover instead. From two vehicles it is usually cheaper, and every van renews on the same day.
